Background:

Matt Lusk is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and has experience working with a wide variety of client concerns. After receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Virginia, he earned a Master of Social Work from the University of South Carolina. While attending the University of South Carolina, Matt completed his clinical internship at Carolina Behavioral Therapy, a Dialectical Behavior Therapy focused private practice in Columbia, SC. Upon returning to Virginia, he began his professional career at one of the Nation’s premier residential treatment facilities for addictions.

After gaining a wealth of experience, Matt transitioned to Richmond Creative Counseling in March 2019. Since then, he has completed trainings to become certified in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). ERP has been shown to be the gold standard treatment for OCD. During therapy sessions, Matt helps clients gain a better understanding of how their OCD functions and they gradually confront feared situations together. Although he has extensive training and experience working with OCD, he is comfortable and enjoys working with a variety of other client concerns including (but not limited to) anxiety, depression, emotional dysregulation, interpersonal issues, and stress management. Matt views therapy as a partnership and tries to adapt his therapeutic approach to each client’s unique needs. His goal is to create a safe space where clients feel both validated and challenged. He believes everyone should have an environment where they feel comfortable discussing their thoughts and processing their emotions free of any judgment. Matt enjoys working with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds and is LGBTQIA affirming.

When not working, Matt enjoys traveling, playing trivia, eating at new restaurants, and spending time with his dog (River).
